Peru: Agroclimatic risk forecast for bean cultivation

The National Agency for the Promotion of Agricultural and Livestock Productivity (Senamhi) has released the agroclimatic risk forecast for bean cultivation from July to September 2024. The forecast predicts varying thermal and rainfall conditions across Peru, with different impact levels on bean cultivation. The south coast faces a slight delay in crop development due to cooler temperatures in July, but favorable conditions for pod filling in August and September. However, mining insects and disease risks could pose a medium agroclimatic risk in the northern jungle and central jungle areas, where high temperatures and lower than normal rainfall in September could also limit crop development. While some regions show low to medium-low agroclimatic risk due to normal to slightly above-normal temperatures and rainfall, other areas like Pariahuanca and Santo Domingo de Acobamba, and the Junín jungle (Satipo and Chanchamayo), face a medium-high agroclimatic risk due to high temperatures, below-normal rainfall, and potential pest and disease pressures, threatening the bean crop campaign in these regions.
