Italy: Agronetwork with Confagricoltura Vercelli and Biella to enhance the rice supply chain

The Salone degli Affreschi in Vercelli hosted the event dedicated to rice today as part of the Agronetwork tour “L’oro in bocca”, aimed at promoting agri-food products and territories. The meeting, organized together with Confagricoltura Vercelli and Biella, could not have had a better location. The area holds the record for the province with the most rice-growing areas in Italy, the so-called “European Capital of Rice”, with a surface area of over 70,000 hectares of rice paddies. Although Italy is not traditionally known as a nation of rice growers like China or Japan, our country boasts a long history, an excellent production of this cereal, enhanced in local recipes now famous throughout the world. The surfaces dedicated to rice in Italy cover approximately 220 thousand hectares. Piedmont occupies 51.9% of the total surface area. Lombardy follows closely, contributing 42.5%.
