With Mato Grosso still dry, soybean planting loses momentum and reaches 40% of the area in Brazil

The rain pattern, which is still very patchy in Mato Grosso, reduced the pace of planting of the state's 2023/24 soybean harvest. The loss of momentum of the country's largest producer also weighed on the increase in Brazil's numbers last week. A survey by AgRural shows that 40% of the Brazilian soybean area was sown by Thursday (26), compared to 30% a week earlier and 46% a year ago. The light and scattered rains predicted for Mato Grosso arrived and, although they helped to alleviate the heat, the volumes and distribution were very irregular. In the driest and/or most delayed areas, there remains a fear of replanting larger soybean areas and sowing outside the ideal window for part of the 2024 corn harvest. In the rest of the country, favorable rains were recorded in several states, but greater regularity is still needed in areas of the Central-West, Southeast and North/Northeast.
