On July 3, 2020, Mr. Wirasak Wangsuphakitkosol, Deputy Minister of Commerce, will visit Nakhon Ratchasima to promote the registration of a new geographical indication (GI) for the locally grown custard apple variety, 'Noina Phet Chong'. This initiative aims to increase the value of the product, benefiting local farmers and the economy. The Department of Intellectual Property will collaborate with the province, farmers, and entrepreneurs to register this GI. The Department has identified 147 potential GI products from 50 provinces, primarily fruits, silk, agricultural processing, handicrafts, and weaving machinery. Since the implementation of the Geographical Indication Act 2003, 143 GI products have been registered, including 126 Thai GI products and 17 foreign GI products.
