Chile is set to export a record 124.6 million boxes of fresh cherries for the 2024-2025 season, a 51% increase from the previous season, with 90% of the exports headed to China. The tradition of gifting cherries during the Chinese New Year has contributed to their popularity. Logistics company Maersk is facilitating quick deliveries to China through air transport, using advanced technology to monitor cargo conditions and provide real-time information to producers. This season, Maersk will conduct 11 charter flights, transporting 1,500 tons of cherries. The industry's growth is challenged by the need for cold treatment due to the fruit fly and the requirement for a large number of refrigerated containers.
