Air transport as an alternative for Chilean cherry exports

Chilean cherries have become a highly prized product for consumers, especially for Chinese consumers, as it is traditional to give cherries as a symbol of good luck and prosperity to family and friends during the Chinese New Year celebration. This has increased trade between the two countries, benefiting both Chilean farmers and Chinese consumers. Within the Chilean fruit industry, cherries occupy a prominent place. In the last decade, they have registered sustained growth, reaching 27% of the fresh fruit exported by the country. The cherry season in Chile runs from late November to February and for the 2024-2025 campaign, the Chilean Fruit Cherry Committee plans to export 124,638,853 boxes of fresh cherries, equivalent to 623,194 tons, estimating a record figure for exports and an increase of 51% compared to the previous season.
