In Jiangxi and Yunnan provinces of China, concerns have been raised about the safety of scallions and chives sold in local markets due to their fading or discoloration after rubbing. Investigations by market supervision authorities in Ganzhou and Kunming revealed the presence of excessive copper content and harmful pesticides like metalaxyl and fludioxonil on the vegetables, exceeding safe limits. These contaminated scallions and chives were urgently removed from sale and destroyed. The incident highlights the need for enhanced food safety measures to protect consumer health. Consumers are advised to inspect spring onions for blue discoloration and ensure thorough washing to avoid potential health risks.
