The Algarve region's citrus fruit campaign is set to continue shattering production records, with high quality and increasing export records, as noted by the regional director of Agriculture and Fisheries, Pedro Valadas Monteiro. The Continente distribution chain has committed to purchasing 14,500 tons of Algarve oranges, a 5% increase from previous years, and other supermarkets are also showing interest in PGI-certified Algarve oranges. Despite the economic challenges of the pandemic, the Algarve's agricultural sector, with its competitive export and small-scale, diversified farming, is experiencing steady growth in sales of Portuguese products, acquiring over 160 thousand tons of agrifood goods in the last year.
