A recent decree in Algeria sets the ceiling price for consumed coffee, with Arabica coffee priced at 1,250 Algerian Dinars (US$9.45) per kg and Robusta at 1,000 Algerian Dinars (US$7.56) per kg. The decree also limits the profit margin for importing green coffee beans for resale to 3%, and 4% for products made from imported green coffee beans for processing. The Ministry of Trade and Export Promotion is responsible for publishing the reference price of green coffee beans internationally. Any enterprise importing green coffee beans at prices above the reference price must submit documents to the Clearance Committee for subsidy assessment. If the documents are accepted, the state will compensate the enterprises from the budget to maintain the set ceiling price for consumed coffee.
