The Foreign Agricultural Service of the US Department of Agriculture predicts that Algeria will import approximately 9.2 million tons of wheat in the 2025/26 marketing year to meet domestic demand, maintaining similar harvest levels as the previous year. The primary suppliers of wheat to Algeria are Russia and Ukraine, with France's exports significantly decreasing. Algeria's diet, which is based on cereals and bread, makes it the world's second largest per capita consumer of bread. Additionally, the country's milling sector consists of approximately 432 mills, not all of which are operational. Algeria also imports barley, mainly for animal feed, and corn, with expectations to increase corn imports due to the growth in the poultry industry.
