Allowing imports of milk and dairy products not accompanied by a halal certificate to enter Egypt until the end of February 2023

The Food Safety Authority has issued instructions to the various customs outlets regarding the halal certificates that are offered with different food products. The instructions, which Al Mal obtained a copy of, stipulated that imports of milk and dairy products that are not accompanied by a halal certificate are allowed to enter Egypt until February 28, 2023 “as the date of arrival at Egyptian ports” as a measure to facilitate trade, with the exception of raw milk. It is noteworthy that the food industry companies are obligated to obtain a halal certificate, in the event that the importing countries of their products demand this certificate. Egypt’s imports of Irish dairy rose in 2020 by 22% to reach about $59 million, equivalent to EGP 950 million, and a report issued by the Irish Food Council added that the increase amounted to $11 million in 2019.
