In 2023, the consumption of almonds in Spain experienced a significant surge, with a 32.6% increase to 14.7 million kg, primarily driven by the European almond, a healthy and sustainable food product grown in Spain and Portugal. The market value of these almonds also rose by 26.6% to 178.2 million euros. The majority of consumers include middle-aged and older couples with children, adult couples without children, and retired people. The 'Sustainable EU Almond' promotion campaign, supported by the EU, highlights the product's Iberian origin, quality, and sustainability. Spain now holds the second place in the global almond export rankings, with a total of 130.8 million kilos exported, mainly to other European markets like France and Germany.
