The harvest season for the 'Maraş-18' walnut, a variety that rivals the 'Chandler' walnut of America, has commenced in Turkey's Kahramanmaraş province. The expected yield is 20 thousand tons from 10 thousand tons already harvested. The walnuts are grown in the Çağlayancerit, Pazarcık, Elbistan, Ekinözü, and Dulkadiroğlu districts, covering about 50 thousand acres of land. They are exported to countries such as Iran, Iraq, Russia, and Saudi Arabia. Farmers who have adopted modern production techniques are using walnut crushing and peeling machines for efficient harvesting. The walnuts are also processed into products like sausages and amulets for consumption during the winter.
