Researchers from the Northern Branch of the All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography have observed weaker spawning behaviors in herring in the White Sea, leading to a decrease in herring catches. The majority of catches included Asian smelt and White Sea herring, with a few whiting specimens found. The team also conducted water sampling to monitor the quality and quantity of ichthyo-, phyto- and zooplankton, as well as the temperature and salinity of the water. All data collected will be used to forecast fishing regulations and to evaluate the living conditions of aquatic life in the Dvina Bay area of the White Sea.
