Between September 2020 and January 2021, during the 2021/2022 export season's initial five months, Egypt experienced a notable increase in its agricultural crop exports, reaching a value of about $ 821 million with a total weight of 1.278 million tons, marking a 7.5% growth in value but a 4.6% decline in volume compared to the previous season. This growth was largely driven by the export of citrus fruits, which accounted for 38% of the total crop weight and 29% of the total export value. Other significant contributions were made by fresh Romans, sweet potatoes, fresh beans, fresh tomatoes, fresh potatoes, fresh strawberries, medicinal and aromatic plants, and fresh lettuce. The top importers of Egyptian agricultural crops included Saudi Arabia, the Russian Federation, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands, with Saudi Arabia being the largest importer by weight and value. Exports to these and other countries such as Iraq, Italy, Malaysia, and Ukraine contributed to the diversity of export destinations, with Europe, Asia, and Africa being the primary regions.
