The article provides an overview of the laying hen production and egg market in a Chinese county, as reported by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. As of September, the county had 198,100 laying hens, leading to a total egg production of 260.22 tons, which increased by 24.04% and 39.78% year-over-year, respectively. The number of reserve chickens, however, decreased by 22.41% month-over-month.
The average selling price of eggs from free-range and commercial laying hens experienced slight increases due to the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day consumption peaks and high pork prices, reaching 17.0 yuan/kg and 10.1 yuan/kg, respectively. Despite the overall profitability of laying hen farming since 2017, the article predicts a decrease in egg prices from October to late November, attributed to the consumption off-season and declining demand. However, a significant increase in egg prices is expected in late December 2024, coinciding with the market consumption peak season in 2025.
