Farmers and rice production cooperatives in the Gharb region are experiencing anxiety and anger due to a decision to prevent them from irrigating their rice lands, a practice that has been ongoing for decades and is their main source of livelihood. This decision is part of efforts to conserve water due to rainfall shortages, but it threatens to have social and economic consequences in the region. Rice cultivation is vital, contributing to food security and providing income for 2,500 farmers and over 1.2 million working days annually. The region's rice production is diversified and contributes significantly to national production, covering over two-thirds of the national consumption needs.
