Compassion in World Farming, an animal protection organization, has urged for a total ban on cage keeping of poultry in all EU countries, as per its EggTrack 2023 report. The report indicates a global shift towards more humane practices, despite challenges like avian influenza, food inflation, and military conflicts. It reveals that 80% of European poultry farmers have adopted cage-free practices, compared to 73% in the US and 57% in the Asia-Pacific region. Countries such as Austria, Luxembourg, and Switzerland have already banned cage keeping of poultry, while Germany, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia are planning to implement similar restrictions.
