Peru has signed phytosanitary protocols with China to export chestnuts, pecans, and frozen fruits (blueberries, mangoes, and avocados) to the country. The protocols require these products to maintain a certain central temperature during storage and transport, comply with food safety and plant quarantine laws, and meet national food safety standards of China. Peru is also working towards establishing similar protocols for the export of pomegranate, pitahaya, cherry, and blueberry plants. China, with its 1.4 billion consumers, is becoming a major trading partner of Peru, with agricultural product sales expected to increase by 20% due to a new port terminal in Chancay.
