On August 31, 2024, the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) facilitated the first shipment of Indian pomegranates from Mumbai to Melbourne, Australia. The shipment, organized by M/s. Kay Bee Exports, included 1.1 metric tons of pomegranates sourced from their farms and packed at an Australia-approved packhouse in Ahmednagar. This follows Australia's market access granted in 2020 and the signing of a work plan and SOPs in February 2024. APEDA's initiative aims to boost pomegranate exports and support Indian farmers, with India exporting 72,011 metric tons worth USD 69.08 million in 2023-24. APEDA continues to promote Indian agro-products globally through various initiatives.
