Apple prices in India have dropped by almost 50% in just a month due to an increase in supply from Himachal Pradesh and Kashmir, as well as duty-free imports from Afghanistan. The price drop is also attributed to previous losses suffered by companies when apples in cold storage rotted, leading to cautious procurement this year. The large import of apples from Iran and Afghanistan has also impacted domestic prices. The Apple Growers’ Association of India has called for an increase in import duty to protect local farmers.
