The US Apple Association predicts that the country's apple production will reach over 5 million tons in the 2021-22 crop year, marking a 2.7% increase from the previous period. Despite this annual growth, the forecasted crop is expected to be 1.3% smaller than the five-year average. The Gala variety is expected to remain the most popular, accounting for approximately 19% of the US apple market. Approximately 29% of the total forecasted crop is estimated to be used for processing, with juice and cider production and canning industry using around 635,000 tonnes and 530,000 tonnes, respectively. Washington State is the largest contributor to the apples used for processing, followed by New York and Michigan.
