Over 19 million pesos will be invested to boost the mussel farming sector in Tierra del Fuego, Argentina, following approval by the Aquaculture Technical Advisory Commission (CATA). The funding will be sourced from the National Fund for the Development of Aquaculture Activities (FONAC) and will be used to enhance the Ushuaia Marine Toxins Laboratory's monitoring equipment for the sustainable classification of Bivalve Mollusc Production Areas. The initiative aims to create 250 new jobs, with an expected mussel production of 3,500 to 4,500 tons per year by 2025, generating over 12,000,000 dollars in foreign currency. The project seeks to reduce costs for producers by establishing a preventive program for early detection of harmful algal blooms, fostering the sustainable development of the sector.
