Spain, Aragon highlights its fruit and vegetable leadership in the International Year of Fruits and Vegetables

The Government of Aragon highlights the importance of the fruit and vegetable sector in this territory, and does so within the framework of the International Year of Fruits and Vegetables, declared by the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations ). The fruit and vegetable sector is the second in Aragon in agri-food economic contribution (after the meat sector), and is one of the most prominent in terms of exports. The Aragonese fruit sector generates 134.2 million euros per year, which represents 7.6 percent of the final agricultural production. The Aragonese Executive also highlights the leadership of this territory in the production of sweet stone fruit in Spain, focusing on the case of cherries (with 41 percent of the country's production) and peaches (which represent 34 percent of total production).
