Following the 20% increase in the price of coffee over the last year, the sector in Spain is banking on the pull of demand, greater supply forecasting, the adjustment of their margins, and the adaptation to new tastes to maintain their growth. The latest data from the International Coffee Organization (ICO) reveal that the global coffee price has stabilized, but is 22% above the levels of November 2024, amid turbulence due to climate change, U.S. tariffs on coffee imports (which were later withdrawn), and logistical problems. In Spain, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) shows a 17.3% annual increase and a 0.5% monthly decrease in November. According to the consultancy Circana, coffee has become 15% more expensive over the last year—more than 25% if it is ground or in beans—while most categories have seen decreases in purchase volume, except for whole bean and natural coffee.
