A recent report by Fabian Pettigrew for CAPECA reveals a significant decline in Argentina's fishery exports and foreign exchange earnings over the past ten months, with a 9.5% drop observed in both value and volume. The report highlights a 30% decrease in fishery product exports, particularly raw fish and shellfish, with shrimp exporters being significantly impacted. Despite this, hake exports experienced a 16% increase in cost, leading to stable foreign exchange earnings. The market for shrimp, however, remains challenging with a 21% drop in demand and a 9.3% decrease in average price, resulting in a 28% decrease in foreign exchange earnings. Squid exports have partially offset these losses, seeing a 20.5% increase in sales volume and a 26% increase in value. The main markets for these products include Brazil, Spain, and South Korea.
