Prime Minister Narendra Modi released 109 high-yielding, climate-resilient, and biofortified crop varieties at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute in New Delhi. The varieties include 34 field crops and 27 horticultural crops. Modi stressed the importance of value addition in agriculture, the benefits of natural and organic farming, and the shift towards more nutritious food choices, especially millet. He urged Krishi Vigyan Kendras to inform farmers about the benefits of these new crop varieties. The government also aims to initiate 1 crore farmers into natural farming over the next two years, establish 10,000 need-based bio-input resource centres, and strengthen the production, storage, and marketing of pulses and oilseeds to achieve self-sufficiency.
