A campaign to cultivate oil palms was launched in Tanzania in 2018 by Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa with the objective of reducing the country's reliance on imported edible oil. The campaign, led by the Agricultural Development Services (ASA), has seen a slight increase in food production despite a slower population growth rate. The oil palm crop is popular among farmers, offering employment opportunities and contributing to food security. However, there is a need for increased education on modern agricultural practices to ensure the success of the crop. The region's climate is suitable for oil palm cultivation, and the new seedlings are more productive and mature faster than traditional ones.
