Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is preparing for the possible introduction of African swine fever (ASF) by training fall game search dogs. The dogs can search areas that are difficult for modern technology, such as reeds and tall grass. Since the first case of ASF was detected in Germany in September 2020, over 6,900 pigs and wild boars have been tested in 2021. The country has also implemented various preventive measures, including financing game cooling technology and constructing a temporary protective fence on the border with Poland and Brandenburg.
