A nationwide distribution map has been created to provide a comprehensive overview of the occurrence of 14 problematic plant viruses in agricultural fields, which will be used as a foundational data source for future regional plant virus management. The National Institute of Agricultural Science has created a nationwide distribution map of 14 plant viruses, including Tomato spotted wilt virus, Tomato yellow leaf curl virus, six viruses that have recently entered the country from abroad and are causing damage to farms, and eight viruses that are of concern for additional entry. To select the target viruses, the Agricultural Science Institute prioritized viruses with medium risk levels and those that could cause damage due to sudden outbreaks, based on pest risk assessment results from 2020 to 2024.
