(Seoul=Yonhap News) Shin Seon-mi, Reporter = Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation (aT) announced on the 30th that it will purchase 7,500 tons of spring radishes to prepare for summer radish supply instability.
This is 1.7 times the purchase volume from last year (4,500 tons) and is the largest scale of spring and summer radish purchases in the past 10 years.
aT explained that it decided to purchase radishes due to the increased possibility of supply instability from heat waves and frequent heavy rains from next month until September.
aT will release the stored radishes into the market if radish supply becomes unstable.
This year, the wholesale market distribution range will be expanded from the existing Garak Market to major wholesale markets nationwide.
Through this, they expect to minimize price disparities between regions and achieve nationwide market price stabilization more quickly.
Moon In-chul, aT's Supply Director, said, "We will realize price stability that both farmers and consumers can feel through preemptive storage and timely distribution through a nationwide supply chain."
