In December, Australia saw a significant increase in wheat exports, shipping 2,130,431 tonnes, including 2,114 tonnes of durum, to countries like Indonesia, Yemen, and The Philippines in bulk markets, and Thailand, Taiwan, and Indonesia in containerised markets. China also made a surprise return as a buyer, taking 130,000 tonnes. The December 2024 total exports are projected to surpass the previous year's by a considerable margin, with expectations of shipping around 1.9 million tonnes of wheat in January and February of 2025. There is speculation that India might become a major buyer of Australian wheat in the short term.
