The Australian Trade and Investment Commission has commenced the stone fruit export season, with eight metric tons of peaches and nectarines sent to Kuala Lumpur via air from Melbourne. However, the season may face challenges due to rising air freight costs and limited transportation resources because of the COVID-19 pandemic. To address these issues, the Australian government has extended its International Freight Assistance Mechanism until mid-2022. LPG Cutri Fruit Global, a major stone fruit exporter, has successfully shipped products to Canada and the Middle East by sea, using smarter preservation measures. The U.S. Department of Agriculture anticipates a 5% increase in Australian peach and nectarine production in the 2021/22 marketing year, with nectarine exports expected to grow by 15%. However, political tensions with China could impact fruit exports to the country.
