Australia has approved the import of fresh passion fruit from Vietnam, becoming the fifth fresh fruit to be allowed from Vietnam after mango, dragon fruit, longan, and lychee. This decision aims to meet the increasing demand in Australia, where domestic supply is limited. Vietnamese passion fruit producers must meet Australia's biosecurity requirements, including pest management measures. This decision is significant as Vietnam's passion fruit production was 44 times higher than Australia's in 2019. The Vietnam Trade Office in Australia has been promoting Vietnamese passion fruit to Australian importers, with initial trials of frozen passion fruit pulp and fruit. The value of Vietnamese goods exported to Australia, including fruit and vegetables, saw a 32.1% increase in the first seven months of 2024, reaching $3.76 billion.
