Australia exported around 5,000 tonnes of fresh cherries in the 2020/21 season, which was 23% of total production, with Hong Kong being the largest recipient. The country's cherry growers, consisting of 200 producers, are aiming to increase international exports to 40% of total production by 2025. A new A$1.2 million ($858,000 USD) export program is being launched to support this goal, focusing on enhancing export capacity, minimizing trade risks, and boosting the reputation of Australian cherries. The program will provide over 50 activities and will be funded by industry fees and Australian government funds, addressing areas such as emergency response planning, pest and disease management, data traceability, and supply chain logistics.
