Australia is planning to build a $90 million processing plant to produce algae-based feed additives for cattle, with construction scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2021. The plant, to be built by Pirie Meats in partnership with CH4 Global, Organic Technology Holdings, and Siemens Australia, will produce enough additives to sustain 10,000 head of cattle, made from the red algae Asparagopsis. The supplement is expected to help reduce methane emissions from cattle, which are a significant contributor to greenhouse gas emissions. The plant will also serve as a hub for technological innovation in sustainable, carbon neutral recycling in the agricultural sector.
