In February, Australia's red meat exports experienced a 20% increase from the previous year, reaching 125,003 tonnes. This growth is attributed to higher slaughter numbers and strong demand in international markets, offsetting the complex supply issues in other exporting countries. Beef exports saw a notable 18% rise, with significant growth in shipments to Japan, South Korea, China, and the United States. Meanwhile, lamb and mutton exports also increased by 19% and 37% respectively, with China and the Middle East showing the most significant growth. These export levels are notable as they surpass the strong 2022 figures and are achieved outside of drought conditions, indicating a promising outlook for 2023. The Australian red meat industry is well-positioned for continued strong performance in the coming months, buoyed by production disruptions in Brazil due to BSE.
