The Ministry of Agriculture extended the zoosanitary emergency state by 180 days across the entire national territory due to the detection of avian influenza in wild birds in the country. The measure was published in an extra edition of the Official Gazette of the Union. The emergency state due to H5N1 in birds in the country was initially decreed on May 22, 2023, also for 180 days, but has been successively extended. The last extension was made on April 4 of this year. Brazil has been free of avian influenza in commercial flocks since the end of June. In total, the country has already registered 185 cases of the disease in wild animals in the country (172 in wild birds), 12 outbreaks in subsistence production, domestic breeding, and one in commercial production.
