The inaugural Global Avocado Summit 2024 was held, bringing together stakeholders to discuss the state of the avocado industry, focusing on trends, marketing, and sustainability. Orchestrated by the Chilean Avocado Committee and Yentzen Group, the event highlighted the industry's challenges, such as sustainability, drought, and labor acquisition, while emphasizing the need for infrastructure improvement and the speeding up of Mercosur visa issuance. Chile, the world's second-largest avocado consumer, is expecting a 33% increase in production to 200 thousand tons, with 45% set for export, mainly to Europe. The Chilean Avocado Committee, led by its first female president, Carmen Gloria Lüttges, is advocating for the further strengthening of the industry while emphasizing the importance of quality, health, and sustainability, with a focus on the potential of avocado consumption in markets like India.
