Awakening the potential of the grain known as "white gold" in Vietnam and the opportunity to "pay back" the salt farmers

On the morning of December 16, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development coordinated with the People's Committee of Bac Lieu province to hold a press conference to introduce the Vietnam - Bac Lieu Salt Festival 2025: "100-year journey of salt industry - People's life". Mr. Le Duc Thinh, Director of the Department of Economic Cooperation and Rural Development, said that our country has great potential to develop the salt industry with up to 3,200km of coastline. Currently, Vietnam has an area of over 11,000 hectares of salt production, consuming 1.6 million tons each year, of which 300-400 thousand tons provide food needs; 400 thousand tons for food processing; 600-800 thousand tons for industry, health and beauty. In recent years, the salt industry has received great attention from the Government. In 2018, the salt industry was classified as one of the 7 important rural industries and occupations.
