Azerbaijan began exporting unrefined extra virgin olive oil to Spain in 2023, with 110 tons sold in November for around 0.6 million euros. This follows a decade of initiatives to boost olive production and processing in Azerbaijan, culminating in the opening of the region's largest olive oil and canned olives plant in 2022. The plant, a joint venture involving Azerbaijani company Absheron Zeytun Baglari LLC and experts from Spain, Israel, Italy, Portugal, and Turkey, produces about 4,000 tons of extra virgin olive oil annually. Half of this production is for the domestic market, while the rest is exported under the 'Made in Azerbaijan' brand.
