BA: Cotton Production Exceeds 2 Million Tons

Bahia's cotton farming is gaining strength in the 2024/25 harvest, with expansion of cultivated area and consolidation of productivity. According to the Harvest Bulletin from the Association of Farmers and Irrigators of Bahia (Aiba), cotton registered a 20% growth in planted area, rising from 345,000 hectares in the previous cycle to 413,000 hectares this year. Production followed the expansion pace, jumping from 1.687 million to 2.020 million tons. According to data released by Aiba, the average productivity remained stable at 326 arrobas per hectare, which indicates good performance even with the significant increase in cultivated area. This growth is a direct result of producers' confidence in the cotton market and the adoption of precision management and irrigation technologies.
