Over the past two weeks, a persistent trend of a decrease in outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease in small ruminants has been observed. For this period, there are only three outbreaks – one in each of the Plovdiv, Pazardzhik, and Kyustendil regions. This was reported by the Executive Director of the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) Svetlozar Patarinski at a press conference at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food. Currently, there are 187 outbreaks of the disease in 8 regions – Burgas, Haskovo, Plovdiv, Stara Zagora, Sliven, Kardzhali, Pazardzhik, and Kyustendil. The total number of affected animals is 23,000. All outbreaks have been eliminated, except for those in the Plovdiv region, where disinfection of 120 outbreaks with around 17,000 animals is currently being carried out. Most of them are secondary.
