Brazil: Bahia stands out as the national leader in passion fruit production

Bahia, traditionally recognized for its strong presence in agribusiness, especially in grain production, is also consolidating itself as a major fruit-growing center in Brazil, with emphasis on passion fruit production. In 2023, the state achieved national leadership in fruit production, with a total of 253.9 thousand tons, which represents an increase of 8.3% compared to the previous year, according to data from Portagro. Chapada Diamantina, a region notable for its biodiversity and ecological tourism, stands out as the largest passion fruit-producing center in Bahia. The municipality of Livramento de Nossa Senhora, which leads national production, harvested 44,395 tons of the fruit in 2023, although it registered a slight drop of 5% compared to the previous harvest.
