China has approved the import of fresh bananas from Honduras, following the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Honduras, known for its natural resources and banana exports, saw a significant increase in banana exports in 2022. The imported bananas must meet strict quality management and traceability requirements, including the establishment of a system under Hongfang's supervision, implementation of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and Integrated Pest Management (IPM), and quarantine supervision during processing, packaging, storage, and shipment. In the first two years of trade implementation, 2% of each batch of bananas exported to China will be sampled, with the rate potentially reducing to 1% if no phytosanitary issues are found within two years.
