Spanish beekeepers, led by COAG and Unión de Uniones, are planning a protest in Madrid against the influx of adulterated honey, which they believe is driving down prices and threatening their livelihoods. The demonstration, which will also be held in Paris and Lisbon, will appeal for the implementation of methods to detect honey adulteration, increased border controls, a European-level reference laboratory for honey, and the opposition to the EU-Mercosur free trade agreement. The protest is backed by the Spanish cooperative sector, which is calling for the rapid recognition and validation of honey adulteration methods and stricter traceability to combat fraud and ensure a fair market.
