The Belarusian government is strategizing to boost the production of cucumbers and tomatoes in greenhouses during the winter to decrease reliance on imports and regulate price fluctuations. They are calculating required volumes, including for next-generation greenhouses, and considering investments. The government aims to solve the issue of offseason vegetable production in a few years. The new greenhouse construction site is ready and the project is under review. The government is following a predominantly Dutch approach for seeds and technologies, but also considering Russian varieties. The prime minister of Belarus, Roman Golovchenko, stated that the country only meets half of its demand for cucumbers and a quarter of its demand for tomatoes.
