Between July 2023 and June 2024, GfK Belgium observed an increase in the home consumption of meat and poultry, with each person now consuming 27.9 kg, up by 0.4 kg from the previous year. This rise was led by chicken, with processed meat also outperforming unprocessed meat. Beef consumption rose by 2% to 4.4 kg per capita, while veal consumption fell to 0.46 kg per person. Additionally, the consumption of vegetarian meat substitutes and protein-rich legumes increased, with the average Belgian resident consuming 0.58 kg and 0.88 kg respectively. There was also a growing preference for ready-made meat meals during this period.
