Belgium explores opportunities to support growth in cocoa production in Nigeria

During an official visit to the Oke Aremo Palace in Ibadan, Oyo State, the Belgian Ambassador to Nigeria, Pieter Leenknegt, revealed that Belgium is actively seeking ways to contribute to the growth of cocoa production in the country. This was made during a meeting with the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, last Monday. Leenknegt highlighted that the main objective of his visit was to foster discussions on possible collaborations in the areas of agriculture, trade and finance between Nigeria and Belgium, with a special focus on the cocoa sector, which has enormous growth potential and can benefit the economies of both countries. “We are very interested in supporting Nigeria in the development of its cocoa production as we believe that the country has vast opportunities in this sector and Belgium, as a major cocoa processor, is willing to collaborate to maximize this potential,” the ambassador stated.
