In the first quarter of 2022, Vietnam witnessed a remarkable surge in coffee exports to Belgium, with volumes increasing by 446.8% to 65.7 thousand tons and values soaring by 580% to $135.3 million compared to the same period in 2021. Belgium emerges as the second largest market for Vietnam's coffee exports, contributing to 11.3% of the total volume and 10.4% of the total value. This surge has had a positive impact on the industry, with overall exports reaching 58,700 tons, valued at $1.3 billion, marking a 28% increase in volume and a 60% increase in value year-over-year. Robusta coffee exports to major markets like Germany, Belgium, UK, Japan, Russia, Spain, and the Philippines have also seen significant growth. The EVFTA Agreement's commitment to removing tariff barriers offers promising opportunities to expand the Vietnamese coffee market in the EU, especially for processed coffee. To capitalize on these opportunities, Vietnamese enterprises are encouraged to align their production with European standards and strengthen customer relationships with large distribution corporations.
