The Federal Council of the Swiss Confederation has decided against implementing bans on the import of foie gras and leather products from abused animals. Instead, it aims to address the concerns raised by the initiatives through alternative measures. These include introducing a mandatory declaration for products derived from force-fed poultry and developing a counterproposal to regulate the import of fur from abused animals, with plans to present it to the Swiss Parliament by summer 2025. Additionally, the Federal Council intends to improve labeling requirements for imported wines, animal products obtained without anesthesia, and plant-based foods, to better inform consumers about the origins and production methods of these products.
